  <description>This course will provide the knowledge and groundwork for performing a comprehensive adult seating evaluation. Participants will be able to identify the general principles of adult seating; understand key components of the evaluation; write a successful letter of medical necessity; and, identify the advantages and disadvantages of different seating systems, wheelchairs and their components.   <instructor-bio>Karin Seeley has been a Senior Therapist affiliated with the University of Maryland's Montebello and Kernan Hospital for over 20 years.  She is currently Senior Therapist on the Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Trauma and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Units at Kernan Hospital.  Ms. Seeley is a graduate of Hahnemann University and Pennsylvania State University.  Ms. Seeley has run the Seating, Orthotic and Amputee Clinics at Kernan. Ms. Seeley teaches locally at UMES and UMAB as well as lectures nationally on topics related to Spinal Cord Injury, Trauma Rehabilitation, and Seating and Postitioning.

Laura Johnson has been a PTA affiliated with Uniuversity of Maryland's Mpontebello and Kernan Hospital for over 15 years.  Ms. Johnson is currently a therapist on the Spinal cord Injury, Multiple Trauma and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Units at Kernan Hospital. Ms. Johnson runs the Seating clinic at Kernan Hospital and manages the Specialty Wheelchair Fleet and Specialty Seating Equipment for the facility.  She is a graduate of Union County Technical Institute/Union College.</instructor-bio>
